White Elephant Gifts Worth Stealing

White Elephant is a competition. The gift has to be the one people take from each other, which means it has to be funnier described than unwrapped.

Play it unassigned

Bring the gift as a printed deed with the name left blank, and buy the plot for whoever ends up holding it once the stealing stops. The uncertainty is what makes people take it.

What it is

Damnation Vacation sells a numbered, permanent plot in one of Dante's nine circles of Hell. You pay $6.66, pick who it's for, name their cardinal sin in twenty characters or fewer, and choose their circle. They get a public gravestone page with their name on it, their plot number, and a counter tracking how many days they've been down there.

Why it gets stolen

Because it can be described in one line and everyone in the room immediately thinks of someone. That's the only quality that matters in this game.

Common questions

What is a good White Elephant gift under $10?

A $6.66 plot in Hell — cheap, absurd, and easy to describe in one sentence, which is what makes a gift get stolen.

How does it work if the recipient changes hands?

Buy the plot after the game ends, in the name of whoever is holding it. The plot is created when you pay.

Is there anything physical for the pile?

Print the deed page and wrap that. The link follows afterwards.
